Blue Raiders Lose To Rival Hilltoppers, Looking For Improvement

By MTN Sports Reporter: Ian Wolfe

MTSU Women’s soccer suffered an unfortunate loss to Western Kentucky Thursday night at the WKU Soccer Complex in the first conference match of the season.

This marks the Blue Raiders’ third straight loss with the Hilltoppers scoring early in the match and taking a 3-0 lead in the first half. With the first half starting slow for the Blue Raiders, they picked up the pressure in the second half to get back in the game.

“I thought the first half we made some poor mistakes, that, you know, in a conference game we don’t need to make and Western Kentucky capitalized on that.” Coach Aston Rhoden said. “But I do think the second half, you know, we found our footing a little bit better, you know, but when you’re 3-0 down against any team, it’s hard to catch up.”

Coach Aston Rhoden is looking for more improvement in the second half of the season. With nine matches left in the regular season, there is time to end the season strong.

When asked on what improvements need to be made in the second half of the season, Coach Rhoden said, “To start games the way we’re finishing games.” “We’ve had three losses where I thought we had a 15 minute spout where we made some mistakes and gave up a few goals, and then we have a 60 minute period where we dominate the game.”, Coach Rhoden said.

The Blue Raiders take on Tennessee Tech tomorrow, Sunday September 17th at 5 pm.
