The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that Americans wear cloth face coverings when in public settings.
The precaution is advised because the coronavirus is able to spread even when those who are infected do not show symptoms.
While wearing a face covering can help prevent the spread, the CDC also continues to emphasize maintaining a six-foot social distance.
Surgical masks and respirators are not recommended, as they are needed by healthcare workers.
