Green Hill High claims their 3rd straight series win over Mt. Juliet in the 2024 Mayors Cup.

Updated: Nov 15

Story by Ethan Odom

This year's Mayors Cup was a battle as both Mount Juliet High School and Green Hill High School fought for the city's big award in a rain-weathered game. The game was more intense this year as both teams were undefeated at 9 - 0. It not only ended with the city's champion being crowned... it also gave the winner a 6A Region 4 championship headed into the 2024 TSSAA State Playoffs.

Both teams mainly kept the ball on the ground to avoid turnovers. But there were many mistakes laid across the gridiron especially on special teams. Mt. Juliet was successful in blocking multiple of the Hawks field goals but Green Hill won by recovering onside kicks and forced fumbles.

As the game came down to its final seconds Mt. Juliet Quarterback Tyler Travers rolled out to the right and threw a short pass to Mt. Juliet Wide Receiver Baylor Osborne on 4th and 5. Despite the stellar throw, the ball was too low for Osborne as it hit the turf right away.

The Hawks would then retain possession and their Quarterback Kannon Burroughs could kneel the ball ending the game by a final score of 12 - 10.
