This year's Mayors Cup was a battle as both programs fought for the city's big award in a rain-weathered game. The game was more intense this year as both teams were undefeated at 9 - 0 and had no loss in district. It not only predicted the city's champion but it also gave the winner a 6A Region 4 championship headed into the 2024 TSSAA State Playoffs.
Both teams mainly kept the ball on the ground to avoid turnovers. But there were many mistakes laid across the gridiron especially on special teams. Mt. Juliet was successful in blocking multiple of the Hawks field goals but Green Hill won by recovering onside kicks and forced fumbles.
As the game came down to its final seconds Mt. Juliet (QB) Tyler Travers rolled out to the
right and threw a short pass to (WR) Baylor Osborne on 4th and 5, but the ball was too low for Osborne as it hit the turf straightforward.
The Hawks would then retain possession and (QB) Kannon Burroughs could knee the ball ending the game by a final score of 12 - 10.
