(Durham N.C.) First round action was underway in the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina where the first game on the slate at the Home of the Duke Blue Devils was the eleven seeded Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the sixth seeded Colorado Buffaloes.
The Buffaloes got out to a hot start, taking a 14-6 lead over Middle Tennessee thanks to aggression on the glass and second chance opportunities. The gap would get wider going into the end of the first quarter where the Lady Raiders found themselves down by 11 behind five made threes from Colorado, three belonging to junior guard Frida Formann.
Senior forward Kseniya Malashka came off the bench, providing a much-needed spark, scoring nine points and blocking two Buffaloe shots. The Lady Raiders went on a run themselves with in the second quarter, getting within five points with two minutes left in the quarter, however Colorado would respond, ending the period on a 9-0 run, with sophomore guard Kindyll Wetta knocking in a buzzer-beating 3 to take a 42-28 lead going into half.
Colorado shot 7 for 16 from beyond the ark to Middle Tennessee’s 1 for 9, outrebounding the Lady Raiders by 15.
