A robbery suspect is in custody after allegedly committing two armed robberies and crashing his car into a police vehicle.

The suspect is accused of robbing the Exxon Tiger Mart on New Salem Highway shortly after midnight and then robbing a Stop and Shop liquor and wine store on St. Andrews street at about 7:10 Wednesday morning.

A Rutherford County deputy sheriff spotted the suspect at an Auto Pride car wash later that morning.

He continued driving and struck a car at the intersection on New Salem Highway and Carson Lane.

He immediately fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody. Detectives are interviewing the suspect and the case is still under investigation.
