MTSU volleyball wins second straight, knocks off North Alabama

By Russell Smythia MTN Sports Reporter March 11, 2021 Emma Grever helped MTSU get its second straight win, leading all players with 15 kills en route to a 3-1 victory over North Alabama on Thursday.

The Blue Raiders (3-7) travel to Miami on Sunday to try and extend the streak against FIU (1-8) who are on a seven game losing streak.

“It’s a young team,” said head coach Chuck Crawford. “They’re learning, the winning streak just builds confidence.”

MTSU started the night off by dropping the first set 25-15.

“We gave them 20 unforced errors,” said Crawford. “We’ve had a couple of nagging injuries over the past few weeks, so we tried to rest those players and start some players who don’t traditionally start in those spots and it showed tonight.”

The Blue Raiders won the next three sets. MTSU won the second set 25-20, the third set 25-18, and the fourth set 25-19.

“We were playing at their speed,” said Grever. “We decided to play our game and pick up the tempo. That started putting pressure on them. We wanted to keep putting the ball in the court and work off of that, because they’re likely to make mistakes.”
