Rutherford County Sheriff’s Explorers Take Home Awards After Competing in Gatlinburg

The Regional Boy Scouts Winterfest contest was held in Gatlinburg last weekend. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Explorers finished the event with four different entries in the top 10. Approximately 25-30 teams completed in each event. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Explorers had a total of 110 participate in the event.


Winners and their categories:


· First place: Capt. Malia Xayachack and Lt. Patrick Burns for interview and interrogation.

· Third place: Capt. Malia Xayachack and Cpl. Evan Myers for DUI stops.

· Fifth place: Sgt. Arielle Cooper and Cpl. Louann Braunwalder for drug identification.

· Ninth place: Explorers Caleb Jones, Brain Shockey, Savannah Bowman and Iziah Maxwell for felony stops.


If your child wants to join the Explorers then they must be at least 14-21 and completed 8thgrade. In addition to that, they must maintain a C average in school, earn community service hours and attend meetings every Thursday night.


Adviser Deputy Andy Pugh said, “If you are interested in law enforcement or criminal justice, this is the perfect learning environment.”
