Tennessee Weather-Related Fatalities

36 weather-related fatalities have been confirmed in the state of Tennessee as of January 23rd, according to the Tennessee Department of Health


Among other counties, Shelby County reported 11 fatalities due to the extreme weather conditions throughout the month. Vehicle crashes were the main cause due to poor, icy road conditions.


A vehicle crash on Washington County Highway left two dead after 72-year-old Thomas Boyce lost control of his pickup truck on Washington County Highway, and hit an ambulance as reported by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.


Other indirect fatalities were caused by sledding accidents, slips, falls, and heart attacks from extensive stress while in cold temperatures.
